Our Story
"My journey into the heart of empowerment and community upliftment began with a simple yet profound realization: the power to change our communities lies in our ability to empower the less fortunate. As I traveled across the landscapes of need, I came across the faces of Maasai women and children dealing with the hard realities of limited water, food, and pasture for their livestock. Whereas males guard the family and herd cattle, women are responsible for nursing, cooking, gathering firewood, bringing clean water, and constructing traditional dwellings known as "ENKAJI."
My experiences at Mbirikani village in Kajiado were profoundly moving. I couldn't be a passive observer after seeing such tremendous misery. I took it upon myself to offer presents, food, and clothing to those in need. The youngsters in the villages affectionately dubbed us 'iltunganak oishoyo msaada' (charity givers).
The realization of the extent of poverty and hardship faced by these women and children prompted me to ask a critical question: what kind of world could we create if everyone had the opportunity to reach their full potential as productive, caring, and responsible citizens living in a decent environment? The necessity for meaningful action drove me to start One Maasai Lifestyle. This journey posed critical questions to me, questions that served as guiding lights:
- How do I turn my passion, vision, and mission into meaningful actions to help the less fortunate?
- With whom do I share this passion and vision?
- Who will be the beneficiaries of our initiative?
- Where can we get the resources we need to kickstart our initiative?
The journey was not without its difficulties. Perseverance was necessary to obtain a certificate from the NGO board, and at such moments, I discovered strength in truth—a prayer from the heart can move mountains. Success is not a single endeavor; it is a collaborative endeavor in which 'us' always outnumbers me.'
As I began my endeavor, I realized a simple yet deep truth: love is about putting someone else's needs ahead of your own. This principle guides every action of One Maasai Lifestyle."
